Title: "Unexpected 1/4"
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ceres_libera
Rating: R mostly for language and adult concepts, I guess
Summary: Um … Bones and Jim have a baby? After a genderswap thing. You know, an average Monday on the crackship good ship Enterprise. Seriously, I should really stay away from [livejournal.com profile] buckleup_meme, and finish the other stuff I'm supposed to be working on. Anyway, this is based on this prompt and, I hope the requester enjoys my interpretation of hir prompt.
Canon: Based in the ST:XI/AOS-verse, but strongly influenced by all canon ST-verses. Sort of.
Characters: Kirk/McCoy
Notes: It, um, didn't turn out quite as cracky as I'd intended. Also? It's decidedly not porny. I totally fail at the kink meme thing. Sorry? One-shot in four parts. ~14,000 words. Not even close to being in the same universe as Switch.
Warnings: Reader may require dental intervention after reading. You have been warned.
Disclaimers: I'm totally sure Paramount will want nothing to do with this story. Seriously. In any case, it all belongs to Paramount, JJ Abrams, and the great Roddenberry. Except for this story, which is all me. God help me.

Title: "Not On My Watch"
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ceres_libera
Rating: R-ish for language and implied m/m sex
Summary: A cleaned up version of the ~ 3,000 word story originally posted at [livejournal.com profile] buckleup_meme in answer to the prompt: "SpockPrime tries to tell Bones he has to break up with Jim because Spock and Kirk are soulmates (which is just no. I love Zack but no.). Bones tells him to fuck off. Bones and Jim live happily ever after."
Canon: Based in the ST:XI/AOS-verse, but strongly influenced by all canon ST-verses.
Characters: Kirk/McCoy, Spock
Notes: Not Switch-compliant, although I'm hoping to post my Jim-POV Switch-inverse story (called Touch) as a multi-part one-shot, soon. I hoped that writing and posting this story on the same day (with mistakes, augh!) would help me break through my block.

Oh, and Happy Belated Reboot-versary! One year in, and I’m still having fun. Here’s hoping you are, too.

Disclaimers: It all belongs to Paramount, JJ Abrams, and the great Roddenberry. Except for this story, which is all me.

I posted a small story at [livejournal.com profile] buckleup_meme called Not On My Watch. I hope that link works. This whole fic-in-the comment thing is boggling, format-wise!

Anyway, not Switch-compliant, unlike the story I'm slogging away at, and is based on the prompt "SpockPrime tries to tell Bones he has to break up with Jim because Spock and Kirk are soulmates (which is just no. I love Zack but no.). Bones tells him to fuck off. Bones and Jim live happily ever after."

Maybe having accomplished this smaller story will inspire me to break through the blockage on my Jim-POV story. I'm crossing my fingers!

Or, well, the editors. That is to say, [livejournal.com profile] between_names, [livejournal.com profile] extrabitter and [livejournal.com profile] taverl -- if you're still hanging around these parts, please feel free to wield your metaphorical red pens and have at it. I've finally put in all of my changes on all 459 pages and 234,006 words of Switch.

:: whew ::

I tried to get everything, but ... I doubt I have. I've noticed that I've got a problem with things like saying padd in one place and PADD in another, changing character names (Ivanova/Federova) or spellings (Jindal/Jindahl) and stuff like that. So, please be on the lookout. Also, if anyone else wants to pipe up with typoes, weirdnesses, etc., now would be the time.

Also, does anyone have any idea how I change the Word .doc, which was written with lj's coding in it, (i.e., <> these guys) so that it becomes bolds and italics and not the carats that currently litter the text. I've tried making it an html doc, but that doesn't work, and I'd really hate to have to strip out 459 pages of code littered throughout the text and manually replace it with bold and italics. So, help?

Finally -- I'm working on a little something from Jim's point-of-view, set in the Switch-verse, a few weeks after the epilogue. It's called Touch, and now that I've finally, finally finished the first pass of editing on Switch, I'm free to actually write down the ideas that have been roiling in my brain for the past few weeks. I knew I needed to finish one thing (mostly) before starting another, so I've been strict with myself.

Anyway -- Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, Happy Passover to those who have already celebrated, and Happy Spring to my Northern Hemisphere compadres.

Hello!

I thought I'd just use a post to make a couple of blanket clarifications before I dive in and start answering questions, and thanking you guys for all the kind comments.

1) I'm really not thinking about doing an entire remix of Switch from Jim's perspective. Switch is, and always was, about Bones in my mind, especially all the meanings of the word. I purposefully had him dwelling on the notion of wanting to switch places in other universes as a nod to the fact that we know he's already in one, and because his story (and his history) was a switched up version of TOS!Bones. Plus, of course, switching his nickname from Len to Leo was another means of differentiating him. Then, of course, there are sexuality implications, i.e., "even when he played ball, he was a switch hitter," and all of their iterations.

2) So, what I meant when I said I was thinking about Jim's perspective, is that I was considering writing a discreet story, set during the Academy years and in the Switch-verse, like ... maybe during the time that Jim was on the Farragut and his only form of communication with Leo was writing letters. Something like that.

And I was wondering, if you had to pick a time or an incident within the story, where you wanted to know what Jim's perspective was, what would it be?

Unfortunately, I did not express myself clearly at all, but ... that's what I meant.

3) I'm working on edits and will start slugging them into place, which will mean that some of what you've read will change. Nothing structural or major, except for one problematic section with some dubious medical gibberish, but the actions and consequences of behaviors will remain the same. However, I'm afraid that even if you've grown attached to certain awkward sentences, they will change. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] barely_alive).

4) Speaking of awkward sentences, characters who change names, tense slippage, verb subject disagreement and all manner of horrible things, so far, [livejournal.com profile] taverl, [livejournal.com profile] between_names and [livejournal.com profile] extrabitter have said that they'd be willing to be an extra set of eyeballs after I get things in semi-ship shape. If you're inclined to join them, do let me know, and I'll let you know when I'm ready!

5) Thanks!

Summary: The life and times of Leonard H. McCoy MD/PhD … If Leonard McCoy's life could get any fucking weirder, it would be … Jesus, he didn't even want to think what that could possibly mean, because it's already been too fucking weird to make any kind of rational sense.
Canon: Based in the ST:XI universe, but strongly influenced by all canon ST-verses.
Characters: McCoy/Kirk, with eventual appearances by all other ST:XI characters.
Notes: My friends, it's been an incredible journey. Thank you all for encouraging and challenging me throughout it. This whole experience has been a joy for me -- even as verbose as I am, I'll never be able to adequately sum it up.

I'll be going back to edit and clean-up the previous 50 parts, before I undertake the writing of a post-lude story.

Heck, I'm even kicking around an idea of another story (set in the Switch-verse) from Jim's perspective. Any ideas?

P.S. Those of you who have volunteered to edit this monster? Give me a week or so to put in the edits I already have before you start. (Any and all input welcome, by the way.)

P.P.S. [livejournal.com profile] mintcloud? I hope that you'll belay those threats of violence, since I did as you asked!

P.P.S. Semi-final word and page counts? Oh, about 231,420 words, and 453 pages for [livejournal.com profile] meewunk to roll around in. Until I finish editing, that is.

P3.S. Whoops! Sorry for the cut-fail!

Notes: It's quite possible that this is the last full part, that all that is left to post is a brief (well, for me) epilogue. In any case, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support over these past six+ months. You have no idea how much it's meant to me. And remember: the epilogue is still to come. And then, there's that post-lude story idea that I'm kicking around.
