In the Switch-verse, Jim served on the Farragut over the course of their second summer at the Academy, back about ten chapters ago, just before Bones' 30th birthday. And as far as the hacking thing goes, I decided to incorporate most of the canon into the storyline, because it was about illustrating a point. Nobody's perfect, and ambitious people use other people sometimes. It happens. The point is to learn from one's mistakes.

As for Uhura, I'd feel exactly the way that she feels toward Jim, I think, if Gaila were my friend. Sure, some of it was misplaced anger about all the stress they've been under, but stress often makes people revert to their worst behaviors, not their best ones. It's human nature, I'm afraid.
